About us

 

            The mission of the Energy Agency in Macedonia - AERM is to support the implementation of energy policy of the Government through preparation of energy strategies, development plans and programs, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency (EE) and the use of renewable energy sources (RES).

Focus on EE & RES

 

            AERM has a mandate to lead, giving initiatives, coordinates the preparation of studies and projects on EE and use of renewable energy towards the successful implementation of action plan for implementation of the Strategy for EE for RM. Furthermore, to encourage and promote energy saving and RES.

Coordinative role

            Local and regional implementation of projects related to EE application systems with special emphasis on the RES and its implementing agencies will be coordinated by the Agency.

This will ensure the implementation of projects in the same areas and replace them without the proper guidance of the available investment funds.

Will also ensure effective transfer of knowledge, application of know-how technologies, success stories from the region and beyond.

LEGAL REGULATION

            The agency’s direction is to prepare proposals for legislation and bylaws technical regulations and standards in cooperation with the competent ministries, educational institutions, commercial entities, nongovernmental organizations and others, which will achieve faster compliance with European Union regulations.

ESTABLISHMENT

            Energy Agency began active operation in September 2007 according to the Law for establishing of the same by July 2005 and verification of the Board in a full by the government in 2005 and second time in 2007.

STATUS AND FUNDING

The Agency is legal entity and its assets provided for the establishment are from of the Budget of RM.

Funds to carry out the activities are provided through transfers from the budget of the Republic, revenues from the performance of specific services in the field of energy as well as from donations, which provides its independence.

The agency has a role to implement the grant from the Global Environment Facility GEF, funds earmarked for the Project for sustainable energy that involves the introduction of market component for the application of methods for improving energy efficiency and RES. The grant is administered by the World Bank.

ENERGY POLICY OF REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

Government and the Ministry of Economy lead and are coordinating the overall energy policy of the state, while the Agency with the authority given by the Law contributes for successful implementation of plans and programs.

FINANCIAL AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT

The Agency is a key mediator for recommendation and obtaining financial support for projects in the domain of EE and the RES from donors and commercial banks, but does not finance directly projects

Arbitrates and provides funding of projects from commercial banks through its partner-Macedonian Bank for Development for potential investors and preferential producers of energy from RES.

Provides technical and financial support for training, seminars, conferences, presentations for project preparation, professional development and implementation of projects on EE and RES.

Recommends approval for funding of projects with commercial banks and funds, through the mechanism for assessing the profitability and return of investments.
